KUALA LUMPUR: Beginner’s luck was with Yen Kut Foong when she won RM20,000 worth of travel vouchers from MATTA that will pay for a family holiday to South Korea next Chinese New Year.
The ecstatic Yen, 46, won the grand prize when she picked the right envelope at the WITM-MATTA Fair September 2013 Buyers’ Contest Prize Presentation Ceremony here yesterday.Family trip: Yen (centre) celebrating her win with husband Wong Chee Min and daughter Kelly Wong. “I really thought there was absolutely no chance of winning because thousands of people entered the contest. But we just participated anyway for the first time when the travel agent told us about it,” she said, adding that this was the best Chinese New Year present so far.
Yen, who will travel to South Korea with her husband and two children, said the trip costs about RM18,000 for the flight and accommodation expenses.
Yen and eight other winners were present at the ceremony to choose their prize through a process of random selection, with the second and third best prizes being two Kuala Lumpur-Dubai return business class tickets and two Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai return business class tickets respectively.
Other prizes in the top 10 list included a holiday package to Macau for two, two Kuala Lumpur-Kochi return economy class tickets and two Kuala Lumpur-Yangon return economy class tickets.
WITM-MATTA Fair September 2013 chairman Jeffri Sulaiman said there were another 58 winners who were picked via random computer selection earlier for prizes including a deluxe room stay for two at Seri Pacific Hotel, hi-tea vouchers for two at Seri Pacific Hotel and premier class tickets to any Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) destination in peninsular Malaysia.
He said a record-breaking RM170mil had been spent this time around, the highest recorded in all its travel fairs despite the fact that the 86,867 visitors recorded fell short of the estimated 120,000 visitors.
The prizes were sponsored by MATTA, MAS, China Airlines, Myanmar Airways International, Palm Garden Hotel IOI Resort, Quality Hotel City Centre Kuala Lumpur, Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur, Pullman Kuching, Seri Pacific Hotel, Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Macau Government Tourist Office, KTMB and Maxly Landscape.
