FANCY treating yourself and the family to a nice holiday? After all, with so much going on, it is probably time to take a break and recharge.

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has announced its September edition, with many special promotions to a wide range of holiday destinations and theme parks.

This comes after the balloting session for domestic travel exhibitors held at the MATTA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

So far, 40 exhibitors have confirmed their participation, and more are expected to come in and take up 245 booths which will exceed the 235 during the Matta Fair in March.

MATTA chief executive officer Phua Tai Neng said they were promoting domestic travel not only for locals but also expatriates working in Malaysia.

He expressed confidence that this would be another successful event.

“From a combination of domestic and international, there will be a total of 1,333 booths in all five halls and the foyer.

“To-date, 95% has been taken up and we are still receiving registrations from exhibitors,” he said.

The states that have confirmed their participation in the fair are Sabah, Sarawak, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor, Pahang, Johor, Kedah, Melaka and Labuan.

These states are taking the opportunity to promote the hidden gems and attractions that each local destination has to offer, Phua said.

Additionally, Sarawak has been selected as Malaysia’s Favourite Destination in the upcoming fair.

“There is so much to see in Sarawak. I know that the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is very excited about this and working hard to promote the state.

“More often than not, Kuching is usually the place we visit when in Sarawak. It is time we explored further because the state is brimming with attractions,” he said.

STB has taken up 11 booths, while the biggest exhibitor is Sabah Tourism Board with 16 booths.

Next week, a balloting session will be held for the international exhibitors. So far, 157 have registered.

MATTA Fair will be happening from Sept 8 to 10 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur, and is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors.

Halls 1, 2, 3 and the linkway will host the international exhibitors while halls 4 and 5 as well as the foyer will consist of domestic exhibitors.
