KUALA LUMPUR: Perak is all set to play host to tourists with 70 state-level events lined up for Visit Perak Year 2017.

Among the events are the Ipoh Cycle Fest, International Tourism Expo, Pangkor International Poetry and Folk Song Festival (Pulara), Perak International Magic Festival and Perak International Drum Festival.

Destination Perak chief executive officer and managing director Abd Raheem Mohamad said the state would be promoting several internationally-recognised tourist spots in a bid to attract nine million visitors this year.

“The hipster cafe trail will be launched during the MATTA Fair, showcasing Ipoh’s hipster cafes, artwalks and alleyway murals,” said Abd Raheem at Wisma MATTA here.

“Ipoh also has a lot of delicious and cheap food to offer,” he said.

Perak is Malaysia’s Favourite Destination for the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair to be held from March 17 to 19.

In conjunction with the Visit Perak Year 2017’s slogan “World of Wonders”, the state will have 16 booths at this year’s MATTA Fair in Putra World Trade Centre here.

Abd Raheem said Ipoh was listed in Lonely Planet as the ninth top region in the world to visit this year and the sixth best place to visit in Asia last year.

Meanwhile, MATTA secretary-general Nigel Wong said: “Of the 1,287 booths, the fair will have more than 500 featuring domestic destinations.”

MATTA Fair is expected to clock sales of between RM150mil and RM200mil.
