THE upcoming MATTA Fair, which is set to be at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MiTEC), will highlight a new tour destination, namely Saudi Arabia.
The Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA) is aiming to achieve RM400 million in sales and more than 250,000 visitors at the Matta Fair to be held from March 17 to 19, 2023.
MATTA Fair organising chairman Rocky Kho said the event will be a fun fair experience with new exciting products and destinations, lots of cultural content and a celebration of festivals from around the world.
“We will occupy the entire MiTEC facility, which includes all three exhibition levels, taking up almost 37,000 metres of the area, plenty of space for exhibitors to showcase their products,” Kho said at a press conference last Friday.
He mentioned that besides travel agents, the three-day event is also looking for participation from various national tourism organisations, state tourism organisations and various airlines.
On the new destination, Kho said Saudi Arabia is not a destination just for Muslims and for Umrah and Hajj only, but it is now for everyone.
“This in addition to the fact that now Malaysia is one of the privileged countries that has a Saudi Arabia tourist visa that is valid for an entire year with multiple entries,” he added.
Kho also highlighted that whatever product being sold at Matta Fair has gone through heavy screening and filtering by its quality check and monitoring committee, as all products must be licensed and highly reliable.
Meanwhile, MATTA Fair organising committee Datuk Hamzah Rahmat reminded Malaysians to be wary of their health and wellbeing while travelling post-pandemic.
“It is a lot easier now for us to promote and start selling travel insurance. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, today’s travellers understand the necessity and the importance of travel insurance,” he said.
Organising committee Nigel Wong said they are optimistic on meeting the targets of the fair despite Malaysia and the entire world facing recession this year.
“Malaysia is a lot more resilient to the expected 2023 economic downturn. The country is in a better position with our political stability and we are seeing signs of recovery in the economy, translating to a lot more positive and competent spending by consumers,” he said
He added that this trend will continue throughout the year and that travel trends have not changed among Malaysians.
MATTA Fair 2023 will also feature a performance stage, café areas on each floor, food trucks and durian stalls outside.
There will be free shuttle services at designated pick-up and drop-off points within the vicinity of MiTEC, including Hentian Duta and Kompleks Mahkamah.
