KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) is welcoming back Merchantrade Asia Sdn Bhd as the official money changer for the upcoming Matta Fair after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
This is the company's seventh appearance at the Matta Fair since its inception in 2017.
Matta Kuala Lumpur Chapter chairman Sheikh Awadh Sheikh Abdullah said the partnership with Merchantrade Asia demonstrated the company's strong belief in the three-day Matta Fair at World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) starting on Friday.
"Merchantrade Asia has been presenting a variety of goods and services that are in demand with travellers, especially their multi-currency payment alternatives throughout the years."
Sheikh Awadh also announced some surprises for the 51st edition of Matta Fair.
He said it was providing a much bigger exhibition space and waiving entrance fee.
"There will be three halls reserved for the fair, namely Hall 3, Hall 4 and Hall 5 at WTCKL."
"Halls 3 and 4 offer a mix of international and domestic travel options, while Hall 5 focuses on national domestic travel, which is coincidentally aligned with the hall's name, Merdeka Hall."
"Admission to the fair is free, and it is open from 10am to 9 pm from Friday to Sunday," he said during a joint press conference at Wisma Matta here today.
Merchantrade Asia executive vice-president (corporate and business development) Ivan Alias expressed gratitude for returning to the fair after two years as it will allow the company to provide numerous benefits to visitors.
"A physical money changing counter will be available, as well as a booth to provide cards to customers, with the amount limit increased to RM20,000.
"A hybrid syariah-compliant wallet will also be introduced with a RM30,000 limit or a combined limit of RM50,000, which is good for those travelling overseas," he said.
Healthcare companies and fintech companies are also taking part in Matta Fair. There will be products such as travel insurance for families for sale.
The September 2022 edition of Matta Fair at WTCKL features 527 booths by 125 organisations.
The public is encouraged to use public transport such as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) or e-hailing services in order to avoid bad traffic to get to the venue.
